What we've been up to over the last few months

Paaartay!

Luke says:

As part of our on-going celebrations, we decided to mark our 20th birthday recently with a big party at Nixon HQ.

It was all hands to the pumps when the big day came,  clearing the office and rigging up lights and a projector as well as having a general tidy up.

We kicked off around 4pm, marked by the arrival of an 80′s Cadillac stretch limo which parked up outside to ‘pap’ people as they arrived.

There was a good turnout from from clients, friends, family and ex-employees alike who all partook liberally of the well-stocked bars and excellent nibbles that came up from the Salt Bar on the ground floor in a seemingly never-ending supply.

Live music was supplied by the Nixonaires and there was even some dancing, although the floor could be felt going up and down in a slightly unnerving fashion! We carried on well into the night, with the last stragglers wending their unsteady way home at around midnight.

We gave everyone a souvenir book – a largely pictorial retrospective view of the last 20 years, including a ‘rogues gallery’ of nearly all the people who’ve worked here over the years.

We thought you might like to see a few choice pictures of the night which Bob Berry, our talented friend of many years, took on the night…

The xx at the Jubilee Pool

diggory says:

We’ve all got our own experiences of the fantastic Jubilee Pool in Penzance. Mine revolves around skinny dipping but that’s another story. The fantastic Young Replicant has directed the equally fantastic xx at Cornwall’s historic art deco landmark. The video is part of The Creators Project, a collaboration between Intel and Vice. Go and check it out, they have some great stuff on there.

We’re sorry

diggory says:

We know we’re terrible at updating our website. It’s not for lack of work, just that we’re so busy it’s hard to find the time. In between projects, after hours and over a few beers we’re starting the steady process of redesigning our own site. It’ll be exciting so bear with us. In the meantime, here’s a snippet of what’s gone through the studio in the here and now…

The Headland Hotel

University College Falmouth Scratch Magazine
Several paper stock changes, a sponsorship with leading Italian paper manufacturer Fedrigoni, some beautiful words by Stranger and stunning imagery all packed into Falmouth’s alumni magazine.

We’re 20
Some exciting things are happening this year into next as we celebrate 20 years in the design business. We’ll keep you posted…

University College Falmouth Clearing campaign
Clearing is always a tricky time of year. Our latest campaign in collaboration with Stranger went down a storm with numbers up on the national average.

Una
We were delighted to be chosen to name, brand and strategically lead this new development of eco homes a stones throw from St Ives.

It’s going to be nice

diggory says:

The fantastic It’s Nice That are curating a one day creative workshop with inspirational talks by the likes of Sir Paul Smith, Quentin Jones and Hort amongst others. The design team are heading to London for the weekend to soak it all up. Apparently there’s going to be live elements. My charades act may need a tweak but I feel confident. We’ll report back on how it went next week (the event, not my charades don’t worry).

Why have three websites when you can have one?

Tamsyn says:

At Nixon we’re responsibly responsive. You may be wondering what we mean…

Responsive Web Design involves using fluid grids and flexible images to enhance a web page for different viewing contexts. Day by day, the number of devices, platforms and browsers that need to work with your site grows. That’s why we need to adapt how the page looks and functions for each format; from a 1600 pixel Desktop computer, down to a 320 pixel Smartphone. Why would you want pages of text on a smart phone? Responsive means we can tailor the user experience.

We’re ensuring that all our future builds are responsive. Take a look at our most recent responsively built site that we created for Luxury Family Hotels.
